At Wedgewood our project managers deal with the whole process from design of the plans to construction of the new basement and installing our fully approved BBA certified Supersump and Delta membrane system.

Excavation and sequential underpinning.
The basement excavation and underpinning is meticulously carried out according to our structural engineers details to ensure the existing building is stable at all times of the build. When the basement is dug and the concrete slab is laid the tanking is applied. Delta membrane system comes with 25 years manufacturers warranty
Technical info: The Delta membrane is manually fixed by our approved installers to the walls and floor of the basement underneath the plasterboard. The studded structure of the membrane allows dampness behind the membrane to move in all directions unhindered keeping your basement internally 100% dry. This comes with a 30 year manufacturers guarantee.
Supersump system which is used in all Wedgewood basement conversions.
Technical info: Water ingress that devlops behind the studded membrane will be channelled into the sump chamber, which holds a self contained pump which delivers the water to ground level to be disposed of through the main drainage system. Wedgewood also utilise a back up pump which automatically takes over should a failure occur to the primary pump.

Interested? How does the process work?
From your initial inquiry, our consultant will visit you and quickly determine the feasibility and potential of your Basement. After measuring, your specific requirements will be discussed with you and advice will be given to you on what is the most suitable conversion for your property. Shortly after your consultation, you will receive a full specification and fixed price quotation that is valid for acceptance for 90 days.
Once you have accepted our quote and decided to use Wedgewood Builders to convert your existing basement space into a habitable room, our architects will measure up and draw plans ready to submit to your Local Authority.
Prior to submitting to the Local Authority, draft plans will be submitted to yourselves for approval. Once the plans have been approved and signed, they will be submitted to the Local Authority for determination under the Section 63 of the Town and Country Planning Act General Development 1990. (approx 2-3 months for approval to be granted)
Once planning has been approved we will then prepare Building and Fire Regulation plans and submit to your Local Authority Building Control department for design appraisal and structural calculations to justify the proposed design to the Structural Engineers department for checking and approval. (approx 4 - 6 weeks for approval)
Upon approval, we will then serve the necessary Statutory Commencement Notice upon the Local Authority Building Control Department in accordance with the Regulation 14 of the Building Regulation 1985 (amended 1994).
Wedgewood Builders will then obtain the following permits from your Local Authority prior to the works commencing.
Skips & material use and storage on the highway (Local Authority Highways Section)
Waste disposal containers (New Roads and Street Works Act 1991)
